you make me cry is a somewhat uninspiring way to start a text, but what if it’s just true? the piano piece begins, it pushes in, deeply through the ear canals, encircles your stomach, caresses your heart, wants to go higher and before you know it they get wet, your eyes. not that you really want it, it pushes and pinches you but you manage to suppress it and then you turn it off… transition II by julius asal.
a few days later you retry, now it comes even faster, you turn it off again, but this time you sense the cause, the associations, distant memories of those soul-sadness-inducing soundtracks of the french seventies. ‘the things of life’ is the film, ‘la chanson d’hélène’ by philippe sarde, the real culprit, which you quickly stop this one too. stupid philippe sarde, stupid julius asal, why do you need just that small combination of three, four keystrokes and boom it knocks you over again …
the young pianist asal, trained by the wise masters eldar nebolsin and sir andrás schiff, can of course do much more than evoke the soul pain of a poor writer, he demonstrates this brilliantly on his latest release with works by alexander scriabin and domenico scarlatti. transition II, maybe it will work again in the summer, very carefully?

„Du bringst mich zum Heulen“ ist ein wenig inspirierender Anfang eines Textes. Was aber, wenn es einfach stimmt? Das Pianostück beginnt, es drängelt sich ein, über die Gehörgänge tief hinein, umrundet deinen Bauch, umschmeichelt dein Herz, will höher hinauf, und ehe du dich versiehst, werden sie nass, deine Augen. Nicht, dass du das wirklich möchtest, es drängt und zwickt dich, aber du schaffst es zu unterdrücken, und dann machst du es aus… „Transition II“ von Julius Asal.
Ein paar Tage später versuchst du es nochmal. Jetzt kommt es noch viel schneller, du schaltest wieder ab, aber diesmal erspürst du die Ursache: die Assoziationen, ferne Erinnerungen an diese schon immer die Seele traurig verwirrenden Soundtracks der französischen siebziger Jahre. „Die Dinge des Lebens“ ist der Film, „La Chanson d’Hélène“ von Philippe Sarde, der eigentliche Übeltäter, den du ebenso schnell wieder stoppst. Der junge Pianist Asal, geschult durch die weisen Meister Eldar Nebolsin und Sir András Schiff, kann natürlich noch viel mehr als des armen Schreibers Seelenschmerz hervorzutreiben. Auf seinem aktuellen Release zeigt er dies brillant anhand der Werke von Alexander Scriabin und Domenico Scarlatti. „Transition II“ – vielleicht klappt es ja im Sommer nochmal, ganz vorsichtig?
